Shiori Miyashita has been a collaborator with NOT for several years now; she designed our mobile fashion app #notonthestreets and art directed our surreal movement-inspired Spring/Summer 2018 campaign with photographer Ina Jang. Outside of work, I always see her living life to the fullest, whether it's from the front lines of the wildest vogue battles or dressed to the tee for traditional Japanese tea ceremonies.
TELL ME WHAT YOU DO AND HOW YOU GOT STARTED.
I'm a graphic/experiential designer. I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design. I worked in the beauty industry for a long time. Now I work for a tech company.
WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?
For work, I'm planning a pop-up event at a music festival and campaign concept for Pride month. I do creative direction for speak-easy dinner events in my private time sometimes.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK?
I like creating a space where you can surround yourself in a brand's storytelling. I've always liked working for an actual space versus print or web format.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR "SECRET SPOTS" IN THE CITY?
I have a favorite masseur in Chinatown. His name is Tom. I randomly had him as a masseur one day and he has never disappointed me ever since. Maybe I go once a month-ish.
WHAT PURCHASE OF $100 OR LESS HAS MOST IMPACTED YOUR LIFE RECENTLY?
I bought nice sheets and duvet cover. I sleep very happily every day. Hard to leave my bed in the morning though.
DESCRIBE A MEMORY OR FEELING YOU HAVE WEARING ONE OF YOUR NOT PIECES.
I get a lot of compliments wearing my Sheet Dress. I feel like a unique, elegant and smart woman :)
WHAT IS AN UNUSUAL HABIT YOU HAVE?
I see very vivid and complicated dreams a lot. Sometimes I write down the long and weird story I dreamt and text them to my friends.
IF YOU COULD BE OR DO ANYTHING ELSE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I want to get on a sea urchin boat and crack and eat it on the ocean. I also want to pick up chicken eggs and eat them right at the moment.
